Practical Magic - Between 10and5 exhibition

I was part of the Between 10and5 exhibition that took place on Friday night. Photographers were paired up with stylists from the Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion design. Our team chose the theme Practical Magic out of a hat. These are the resulting images.

[insert title here]

My sister and I have been doing this our whole lives. I'm 6 years older so ever since she could walk (maybe even before) I've been dressing her up and taking pictures of her.
This was shot at apartment number 410 above the Gardens Centre. The story is about a girl who lives alone and has to eat toast cos she spends all her food money on shoes & hats. Feel free to come up with a title. I am at a loss.

The Vamp Girls

Technically, this is a terrible photo. But I like it because if you've ever met Nicci, on the left with the mushy face, not only will you know that she doesn't really look that (she actually looks like this
but also that this motion blur truly captures that fact that she is hardly still for a second.
The other lovely dancing lady is Cheralee.

Culture Club

Some photos from the Toffie Popular Culture Festival held at Cape Town City Hall this last week/end. Not the kind of thing I usually post so wasn't sure about putting them up. Uhh, but I like them, so here they are anyway.

Siblings

Some snaps I took of my good-looking siblings when they were visiting early January.

Miss them terribly. x

The Madness of Madeline

This shoot took place on an extremely windy Saturday in the Company Gardens. We battled against Cape Town's notorious South-Easter trying to hold onto full-length dresses, hats, hair and reflector boards.
In some cases the wind was on our side producing some interesting shots. The model, Ané Strydom, was a real trouper!

The stylist on the shoot was Kate Desmarais. Together we worked on a concept around the beautiful vintage items belonging to The Rah-Rah Room.
The idea is the story of an eccentric girl with too much money and too much time. She spends her days in the garden of her mansion dressed in beautiful and sometimes extravagant clothing.

The Rah-Rah Room is a collection of hand-selected pieces by Kate Chauncey of The Pessimiss. (We were most excited to be in the presence of a vintage Diane von Furstenburg mini skirt!)
The opening sale takes place this Saturday in Cape Town. Follow the link for details.

Witchita

A really fun shoot I did in my hometown over the holidays. The models, Amber (17) and Brittny (15), were most obliging teen witches! We shot at a house under construction in the burbs and could only move in once the builders were done for the day. It was quite a rush to get all the pics I wanted before the sun went down but I really like how they turned out.
